Media Center

The Media Center is a great place to volunteer at your child’s school, especially if you are looking to help out on a regular basis, but have limited flexibility in your schedule.  The time commitment for media volunteers is, an hour and a half, once, every other week.  It’s always the same day of the week, and the time is based on your availability.

The responsibilities of a media volunteer include shelving books, checking out materials for students and faculty members, and assisting in projects under the direction of the Media Specialists.

Unlike in elementary school, where volunteers usually assist during their child’s media time, in middle school there are no set weekly visits to the media center.  There are, however, classes that take place in the media center on a regular basis, and volunteers may have the opportunity to observe them while working.  This is especially the case at High Rock.

If a commitment of every other week doesn’t work for you, you may want to consider helping out with book mending instead.  Book mending meets once a month to repair old books and cover new ones.  The commitment is a very flexible two hours a month, and although we encourage you to show up whenever possible, if you can’t make it to a meeting, no worries.

No experience is necessary for either media volunteering or book mending, as we will train on the job.

If you have any further questions about media center volunteering, please feel free to contact us by email or by phone.
